Political Relations
The Republic of Singapore recognized the Independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan in April 1992. Diplomatic relations established on 8th of April 1997.
Since 2007 the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan operates in Singapore, which, also oversees cooperation with Australia.
Since 2011 the Non-resident Ambassador of Singapore to Uzbekistan is Zulkifli Bin Baharudin.
The legal base consists of five intergovernmental documents: the Agreement on the Promotion and Protection of Investments (2003), the Air Services Agreement (2007), the Agreement on the Main Directions of Economic and Humanitarian Cooperation (2007), the Agreement on Avoiding Double Taxation and Prevention Income Shelters (2008), Agreement on Mutual Exemption from Visa Requirements for Diplomatic Passport Holders (2012).
The main event in bilateral relations was the State visit of the Islam Karimov, first President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, to Singapore on January 24-26, 2007.
In April 2009 Speaker of the Singapore Parliament A.Tarmugi visited Uzbekistan, where the delegation held meetings at the Cabinet of Ministers, the Legislative Chamber and the Senate of the Oliy Majlis (Parliament) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Political consultations are held on a systematic basis between the foreign ministries of the two countries.
October 24-27, 2013 the Singapore delegation led by Ms Grace Fu, Minister in the Prime Minister Office, Second Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Second Minister for Environment and Water Resources of Singapore visited Uzbekistan. During the visit delegation held the meetings with the Deputy Prime Minister, the Chairperson of the Women's Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan E.Basitkhanova, the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade, Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources, and also lecture to the students of University of World Economy and Diplomacy.
April 2-5, 2019 Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Defense and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Singapore, visited Uzbekistan with a working visit.
During the visit, he held talks with the leadership of the Cabinet of Ministers, Senate of Oliy Majlis, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Preschool Education, Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, Institute of Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Tashkent city Khokimiyat as well as organized the visit to Samarkand.
Uzbekistan and Singapore are enjoying fruitful cooperation by supporting mutual initiatives in the framework of the UN General Assembly, Security Council and various UN commissions and other International Organizations, such as International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Universal Postal Union, etc.
Visits of delegations of Uzbekistan to Singapore in 2018.
In 2018, 10 visits of delegations of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Singapore were organized to get acquainted with the activities of the Singapore authorities, as well as to enhance bilateral cooperation.
So, from February 26 to March 2, 2018 the delegation of the Ministry for Development Information Technologies and Communications, the Center for the Development of the E-Government and Mirzo Ulugbek Innovation Center visited Singapore to discuss possible ways of joint implementation projects in Uzbekistan in the areas of ICT, E-government, “Smart City” and others.
From May 6 to May 9, 2018 the delegation of the State Services Agency under the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan visited Singapore to study its experience in providing public services, familiarizing with the activities of the Singapore Cooperation Enterprise and other authorities providing public services.
June 4-8, 2018 the delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan led by Sh.Nazarov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Roads, visited Singapore to learn its experience in the construction and operation of highways. In the framework of the visit, was organized the meeting of the head of the delegation with Dr Janil Puthucheary, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Transport & Ministry of Communications and Information of the Republic of Singapore.
From July 8 to July 12, 2018 the delegation of the Tashkent City Khokimiyat (Mayor’s Office) attended the Sixth World Cities Summit and the Mayors Forum, as well as to study Singapore experience in developing urban infrastructure, “Smart” and “Safe” City, social housing construction, creating thematic and entertainment parks, etc.
From July 17 to 19, 2018 a representative visit of “Uzsharobsanoat” JSC was organized in order to participate at the “Specialty & Fine Food Asia” trade exhibition and meet with counterparts in Singapore.
From 15 to 16 August 2018 the delegation of the “Uzulkalkalamzorlashtirish” Unitary Enterprise under the State Committee for Roads visited Singapore to study the infrastructure of Changi Airport and Singapore's advanced experience in planting ornamental trees and flowers.
August 17-19, 2018 the delegation of the State Committee for Tourism Development and the Tashkent city Khokimiyat visited Singapore in order to participate in the largest tourism exhibition “NATAS Holidays 2018” with a separate national booth of Uzbekistan. During the opening ceremony of the NATAS-Holiday 2018, the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Singapore organized the presentation of national dances, as well as a presentation of the tourist potential of the Republic of Uzbekistan, revealing the historical, cultural and gastronomic opportunities of Uzbekistan for foreign travelers.
During the visit of the delegation of the Supreme Court on November 3-7, 2018 to Singapore, members of the delegation were briefed on the activities of the International Commercial Court of Singapore under the Supreme Court of the Republic of Singapore, and the meeting with the Judge Supreme Court Quentin Loh was held.
From 25 to 28 November 2018 the delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance J.Kuchkarov visited Singapore. During the visit delegation met with Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat, as well as leaders of banking and financial circles of Singapore.
From November 25 to November 29, 2018 Embassy organized a visit of the delegation headed by Minister of Justice R.Davletov and Deputy Prosecutor General E.Yuldashev to Singapore, where organized the meetings with Prosecutor General Lucien Wong, Minister for Law K Shanmugam, Director of the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau Denis Tang, and meetings of members of the delegation at the Center for Public Services, notary public of Singapore. Within the framework of the visit, the Embassy with the assistance of the Singapore-Indian Chamber of Commerce also organized the briefing for the Singapore business circles in order to familiarize with the investment opportunities in Uzbekistan.
