Uzbekistan scientists develop a technology for radiation hardening of drilling tools
Scientists of the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan (INP) have developed a technology to increase the strength of tools used in the mining industry. The technology makes it possible to improve the characteristics of drilling equipment several times.
Specialists of the institute, under the leadership of academician Bekhzod Yuldashev, have developed a complex technology for radiation hardening of drilling tools. The first experiments showed that the resistance of some samples of drilling tools increased up to 200%. The result was achieved due to the optimal combination of magnetic impulse and radiation effects on drilling tools.
According to INP scientists, the radiation technology of hardening materials differs from foreign ones in the complex and simultaneous effect of radiation and a pulsed magnetic field on the instrument. As shown by the research results, this approach can significantly increase the strength of the material.
Experimental work was carried out at Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Plant, the Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Plant and the State Unitary Enterprise Uranredmet-Geology.
