The President of Uzbekistan and the Prime Minister of Malaysia agree to launch a Period of Innovative Development of Partnership between Uzbekistan and Malaysia

On February 5, at the Perdana Putra Government Complex, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim held talks in a contracted format and with the participation of official delegations.
The President of Uzbekistan expressed sincere gratitude to the Prime Minister of Malaysia for the warm reception and extended heartfelt congratulations on the significant achievements of the successfully implemented Madani state strategy.
Discussions focused on enhancing and strengthening friendship and partnership between Uzbekistan and Malaysia.
It was noted that the historic visit of the Malaysian Prime Minister to Uzbekistan in May last year gave a strong impetus to the development of multifaceted relations between the two countries.
The political dialogue and inter-parliamentary contacts have intensified. Trade turnover between the two countries is increasing, along with the number of joint enterprises and the frequency of direct flights.
Last year, the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission was successfully held, a Business Council was established, and several major business forums were organized.
Ahead of the visit, meetings between analytical centers, presentations showcasing Uzbekistan’s tourism potential and cultural heritage, and a forum of rectors from leading universities were held.
To ensure effective coordination of cooperation development and the implementation of high-level agreements, a decision was made to establish a Strategic Dialogue platform for the foreign ministers.
The importance of continuing mutual support within the framework of the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and other international structures was emphasized.
Special attention was given to practical trade, economic, and investment cooperation.
To boost trade turnover, an agreement was reached on developing a Preferential Trade Agreement, organizing mutual industrial exhibitions, and adopting an Industrial Cooperation Program.
The Malaysian government actively supports Uzbekistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization.
The leaders agreed to declare 2025-2026 the Period of Innovative Development of Partnership between Uzbekistan and Malaysia.
Priority areas for the new economic cooperation model have been identified, including petrochemicals and chemicals, electronics and the semiconductor industry, innovative manufacturing, smart agriculture, green energy, and pilgrimage tourism.
To support cooperative projects, a special economic zone will be established in Tashkent region under the management of a leading Malaysian company.
The two countries’ leaders advocated for further active cultural and humanitarian exchanges. This year, Uzbekistan and Malaysia will host reciprocal Culture Weeks.
They also exchanged views on pressing issues of regional cooperation, emphasizing the importance of joint efforts in combating terrorism, radicalism, and Islamophobia.
Following the negotiations, a decision was made to develop a roadmap for the timely and effective implementation of the agreements reached.
Following the meeting, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev invited the Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim to pay an official visit to Uzbekistan.
