Uzbekistan’s Syrdarya to turn into a region free from unemployment
On October 6, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in Syrdarya region to get acquainted with the life of the population and the state of affairs in agriculture.
This year, cotton has been grown on 75,000 hectares in the region. These days, almost 80,000 hectares are sown with grain crops.
The Head of the state inspected the fields of farms “Arslon Bobo” and “Omonboy Ugli Tugal” of Syrdarya district.
The “Arslon Bobo” farm has 90 hectares of land at its disposal. This year 80 centners of grain have been harvested from each hectare. The cotton harvest is in full swing. In addition, potatoes, mung beans, carrots, onions and other secondary crops are grown.
The “Omonboy Ugli Tugal” farm cultivates 62 hectares of land. The grain yield was over 80 centners per hectare. The cotton harvest was also outstanding by the number of bolls on the bushes and the course of harvesting.
Thanks to laser land leveling in these neighboring farms, 30-40 percent of water are saved, and time spent on irrigation has been reduced. The pumps are powered by solar panels. Mulberry, willow, and other trees have been planted along the fields within the framework of the nationwide project “Yashil Makon” (Green Space).
Here the President talked with Syrdarya farmers and elders.
“I came here to see you, to wish you success in your work”, Shavkat Mirziyoyev said. - If we evaluate fairly, then we can say that changes are taking place in Syrdarya. But time flies so fast that the needs of people are ahead of the transformation. It is necessary to develop new plans to create the appropriate conditions, to satisfy the needs of people. I have come here not only to thank you to the dear residents of Syrdarya, but also to outline the necessary areas of work for further development of districts, improving the well-being of people.
Farmers noted the expanded opportunities in agriculture, which became more profitable, the elimination of forced labor, and spoke about additional types of products.
“A land is a source of our people’s well-being. At one time, growing something other than cotton, even on one hectare of a cotton field, was considered a crime, whoever planted repeated crops was persecuted. And today we have allocated 80,000 hectares of cotton and grain fields to the population, and we will allocate more. After all, the products grown on them will also serve our people: they will go to the market, bring income to families. Today, leaders of the republican level and hokims proposed to allocate another 7.5 thousand hectares, so that unemployment could be eliminated in Syrdarya region. I fully supported it”, the President said.
Here the Head of the state talked with young people involved in agriculture. They received plots of 0.5 hectares on this farm, where they grow mung beans, carrots, onions, and garlic. They talked about their plans to enter the university, as well as to improve their homes at the expense of the income received.
The President also visited the “Shukronalik Mujizalari” farm in Saykhunabad district.
The total area of the farm is 70 hectares. This year, cotton is grown on 25 hectares and grain on 45 hectares. The yield is high.
Priority in our country is given to those crops that bring more income. This approach gives good results in agriculture. The farm is also benefiting from land freed from cotton. In particular, this year mung bean was planted on 45 hectares as a secondary crop.
A conversation took place with representatives and responsible persons in the agricultural sector. The Head of the state noted the need for increasing productivity through the use of innovations and the best varieties, rational use and accounting of water. Instruction was given to improve the living conditions of farmers and workers, in particular, the construction of small accessible houses for them.
