Leaders of Uzbekistan and Pakistan Discuss the Issues of Further Expanding Bilateral Partnership
On September 15, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif, who is on a visit to Samarkand to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit.
Having sincerely welcomed the Prime Minister of the friendly country, the President of Uzbekistan expressed gratitude for attending the Samarkand SCO Summit.
During the current visit, Shehbaz Sharif appreciated the warm welcome in Uzbekistan and the humanitarian aid provided earlier to the flood victims in Pakistan. The leader of Pakistan confirmed the Pakistani side’s interest in strengthening the multifaceted strategic partnership with Uzbekistan.
The Presidents considered the whole range of issues of bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade, economic, investment, transport and transit areas.
The growth of mutual trade indicators was satisfied. They increased by 47% last year and by another 10% since the beginning of this year. The number of joint enterprises has reached 200.
A particular attention was paid to the issues of expanding cooperation in the field of transport and logistics. The importance of accelerating the implementation of the Trans-Afghan railway project, removing the trade barriers and establishing the favorable conditions for mutual deliveries of goods was particularly emphasized.
The topical issues on the international and regional agenda were discussed.
The meeting was held in an open, warm and friendly atmosphere.
